We are seeking a full-time Data Engineer 2 in our Chandler, AZ location. In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to data development and operational stability of the Big Data ecosystems while we work to modernize and evolve our database system to enable capabilities for software functions.
Essential Functions
- Provide technical input to feature development plans and concept documents
- Understand production and operations issues as they relate to engineering
- Exemplify Garmin's Mission Statement/Quality Policy and proactively improve image/culture
- Develop scalable, extensible solution architectures leveraging contemporary big-data technologies in an evolving operational framework
- Partner with team lead to identify technical requirements and alternatives to accomplish projects
- Participate in design, code, test, maintenance, enhance and decommission phases throughout software life cycle to contribute technical expertise and to identify issues
- Participate in and help guide research POCs, including design, coding, and performance and efficacy measurement
- Develop solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity/creativity and provide innovation within area of expertise
- Demonstrate broad understanding of Garmin's business model, including Engineering, Operations, Finance, Sales and Marketing
- Contribute to and triages major incident troubleshooting involving multiple disciplines
- Apply technical expertise and analysis to initiatives and provide input to broader technology solutions outside of discipline
- Provide 24x7 on call support
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or related field AND a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
- Excellent academics with demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
- Must be strong in SQL administration and have experience installing a SQL Server or other RDBMS
- Experience with open source data tools such as Kafka, OpenSearch and Redis
- Able to implement new technologies effectively and consistently demonstrates quality/effectiveness in work documentation and organization
- Strong/effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in a small team setting
- Experience with .NET Core, Python, Kafka, Redis, Elastic Search and other modern software languages
- Experience with automation tools and platforms
- Prior experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator
- Experience with both Windows and Linux Servers
- Previous experience supporting software development teams and building systems to support their requirements
