About The Role:
The mission of Rippling’s data catalog team is to build an intuitive, powerful, and accessible data catalog that will revolutionize the way organizations find, understand, and utilize data. Rippling’s data catalog transforms each customer’s maze of data assets into a clear, insightful resource that empowers every corner of their business to make better, faster, and more informed decisions.
As a core member of this team, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the architecture and future of our data catalog from the ground up. Whether it’s building data lineage and governance solutions, crafting sophisticated search and indexing features, or optimizing system performance, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering a product that’s at the heart of data-driven decision-making.
What You'll Do:
- Design and Develop: Architect, design, and implement data catalog features, focusing on scalability, performance, and reliability. This includes building and refining search and indexing, metadata extraction, data lineage, and data governance capabilities.
- Enhance User Experience: Work with UX/UI designers to ensure the data catalog is intuitive, responsive, and visually appealing, empowering users to effectively manage and find the data they need.
- Work at the Core: Support and collaborate with a wide range of engineering and operational teams. Act as a central partner, ensuring the data catalog integrates seamlessly across various data sources and systems, making it a foundational tool that powers data-driven work across the organization.
- Ship Quickly: Drive rapid, iterative development cycles, delivering impactful features and enhancements to the data catalog that respond to user needs and evolving data requirements.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience building large-scale, data-intensive distributed systems, such as high-volume SaaS environments
- Preferred experience in building out large scale product infrastructures/platforms
- Preferred experience designing and developing data schemas and data models
- Preferred experience in our technology stack- Python, Django, Golang, React, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Redis, Kafka, AWS
- Ability to thrive in an dynamic environment by identifying areas of impact and independently pursuing them
- Excellent ability to communicate complex technical ideas with clarity and precision in written and verbal modes

Rippling highly values in-office collaboration. Employees living within 30 miles of an office are expected to work onsite three days a week with those living 30-49.9 miles away expected to be in the office one day a week. Employees living over 50 miles away are required to relocate within 30 miles of an office. To enhance team cohesiveness, new employees are asked to work onsite three days a week for their first six months.
