Job Description Over the past 2 years, Chariot has grown 1300% YoY. As we scale from tens of thousands of nonprofits to hundreds of thousands, the systems behind our GTM, Ops, and Compliance teams need to evolve from manual and semi-automated to fully automated, well-architected, and engineered.

That's where the Applied AI Engineer role comes in. You will build our internal brain: the engine helping our entire company adopt cutting-edge software and tools (think agent-based workflows) that will power our next phase of growth. The goal is to entirely rethink how work gets done in the first place, rather than to simply bolt AI onto the way we work today.

If you want to configure simple CRM layouts all day, this is not for you. If you want to break down whether a CRM is even needed in the age of AI, and then build a prototype of the workflows that become possible without one, you're going to love this role.

What You’ll Do

  • Turn strategy into systems: Work directly with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to translate company strategy into automated workflows.
  • Build and ship real tools: Write code, build AI agents, and put together internal systems, whether that means taking something from v1 to v100 or building it fully from scratch.
  • Power our growth engine: Build programmatic outbound and custom internal tools that let our GTM, Ops, and Compliance teams move faster as we scale.
  • Question the defaults: Don't simply automate how things are done today. We invite you to challenge whether the process (or the tool) should exist at all, and prototype what's possible instead.
  • Run it in production: Build and orchestrate agents that work well and keep improving in production, with the real data and real teammates who rely on them every day. Not just cool demos.

    • About You

  • Agent builder: You know how to build and orchestrate a set of agents that work well and continue to improve in production (not just cool demos).
  • Fluent in the modern AI stack: You've built with tools like OpenClaw, Claude Managed Agents, and Claude Code, and you understand and can build architecture such as Thin Harness, Fat Skills.
  • Technical foundation: You have 3+ years in Engineering, Growth Product Management, or technical RevOps. You write code (Python, JS, SQL) and you're comfortable with APIs.
  • Bias to ship: You ship v1 today and iterate tomorrow.
  • Owner mentality: You behave like an owner.
  • In NYC: You're based in NYC or willing to be. This is an in-person role (with WFH Fridays).

    Pay Transparency

    Range: $180,000 - $230,000 + Equity Upside.
