Description

BDQ (Books Data Quality) owns the accuracy of book metadata across Amazon's global catalog — author attribution, series linking, categorization, publisher relationships, and entity resolution. We're replacing legacy heuristic systems with LLM-powered inference at catalog scale.

We need an SDM to lead one of our engineering teams. You'll manage the people, own the technical delivery, and drive migration off legacy systems.

Key job responsibilities
People management. You hire, develop, and retain SDEs. You run performance cycles, build promo cases, and coach engineers through the specific difficulty of shipping systems where 97% precision still means millions of wrong records. You create an environment where engineers can experiment with approaches that fail, while still hitting delivery dates.

Technical ownership. You own production inference systems, data pipelines, and catalog services. You make hosting decisions (Bedrock vs. SageMaker vs. self-hosted) and manage inference costs as volume grows.
